My first instrument is a guitar and from that I learned the beauty of chords. Guitars excel at making chords because of its 6 strings, allowing for quick changes of 6 notes at a once. Time occurs in music one chord can come after another and repeat in a cycle. Creating harmonic resonances, dissonance and dynamic relationships to occur.
In my drawing Planet of Chords I was relating the idea of chords as framework to think about social, investing and cultural worlds we navigate and how ideas influence and spread. How they intermingle, change and have different relationships.
Today I was doing this with my artwork and starting to think about which ones have a relationship and creating little groups. Even within my works we find harmony and disharmony grouped together like a chord.
We can use the concept like a tool and apply it to many things. We relate this to the idea of progress of innovation through an era. We can ask questions like:
What is the harmony of economy, innovation and art?
What is the next cycle or harmony going to be like?
Or let our minds wander and create groupings and relationships.
